Team Wrestling Camp at the University of Virginia
We will be going to the University of Virginia for our team wrestling camp on Sunday, July 17 through Wednesday, July 20. The cost of the camp is $475 which includes all meals, charter bus travel, hotel accommodations,4 to 6 refereed matches and receive 2 to 3 hours of technical instruction each day. I will send registration information soon. All checks should be written to Chantilly High School. I realize $475 is costly so we will have fundraising opportunities this spring.

Spring Wrestling Practices & Lifting
The spring and summer is a great time to work hard and get better than the opponent! Although practices, tournaments, and conditioning are not mandatory, we strongly recommend attending (especially if wrestlers are not playing another sport). I'm working to figure out a schedule for our spring wrestling practices. Because Chantilly baseball/softball use the wrestling room frequently in March we won't be able to have a consistent practice schedule at Chantilly until April. I'm going to focus on coaching folkstyle this spring and summer, but learning freestyle and greco in other rooms is a great opportunity! There is always a wrestling room that is having practices in Northern Virginia, so get in there! Here is what I have:
  • Lifting at Chantilly will take place Monday through Thursday from 7AM to 7:45AM beginning Monday, March 7th. I'm in graduate school twice a week after school and this works best for my schedule. Plus, the weight room is VERY crowded after school, so I believe this is the best plan of action. I realize many wrestlers may have issues arriving to school this early, but let's work together to make this work. Again, this is optional, but it's the best way to get an edge over your opponents. Also, wrestlers that live within 3 miles of Chantilly should consider running to school as the weather warms up.
  • Dulles Mat Club wrestling practices will be on Monday and Wednesday afternoons at Westfield High School. I'm working with Coach Shoulders at Westfield to figure out times and logistics. I hope to have more information soon.
  • Gunston Wrestling Club wrestling practice will be on Tuesdays and Thursday from 6PM to 8PM at Hayfield High School beginning Thursday, March 4. This is a great wrestling room with many wrestlers to train with! Contact Roy Hill at (540)587-4068 OR rhill3@fcps.edu for more information.
  • Ashburn Wrestling Club practices 5 days a week in different locations. They will begin Monday, March 9 at Broad Run High School from 4:30PM to 6PM  I will send out more information soon, but in the meantime here is their website with information: http://www.ashburnwrestlingclub.com/ or ashburnwrestling@gmail.com
  • Top of the Podium (http://www.topofthepodium.org/partnership with Patriot Wrestling Club which is run by the coaches at George Mason University, a D1 wrestling program. On Sundays at TOP in March, coach Israel Silva will lead High School and other serious wrestlers in club practices to help them improve and prepare for spring competitions. If there is adequate turnout, we expect these sessions to continue throughout the spring with an emphasis on Freestyle and Greco-Roman. Sunday sessions at TOP are currently scheduled from 5PM to 6:30PM throughout March, except for the very first practice on March 6 (this will be held from 4PM to 5:30PM between rounds of the Dulles Duals Team Championships). The monthly fee is only $50 for these 4 Sunday practices. Participants may also become full members of the Patriot Wrestling Club and attend 3 practices per week (2x at GMU on Tues/Thurs evenings, 1x at TOP) for $100 per month. Alternatively, wrestlers may also pay a $15 fee to attend individual practices. All participants must have a valid, current USA Wrestling card. To register in advance, click here and mail form to Coach Israel Silva.
  • Patriot Elite Wrestling Club will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7PM to 8:30PM at the George Mason Field House Wrestling Room (4501 University Dr, Fairfax, VA) beginning on Thursday, March 25. To register in advance, click here and mail form to Coach Israel Silva.
Tournaments & Virginia Calendar
Always check www.virginiawrestling.com for information regarding tournaments and clinics. Use Virginia Wrestling's Calendar page for information. You can also check http://marylandwrestling.org/ for other local tournaments and clinics in Maryland. The goal is to get 100 off-season matches at tournaments! Here is a list of upcoming events:
  1. Saturday, March 5 from 9AM to 1PM at the Top of the Podium (Sterling, VA) will be having a clinic featuring Joe Kemmerer, one of best instructors in the nation. He is well-known for his technical expertise, high energy, and passion for teaching. Some of Joe’s accomplishments include: 2x NCAA D2 Champion, Greco-Roman University National Champ and World Team member (2010), Undefeated PA state champ, founder and Head Coach of Hammer Wrestling, coached at Liberty University and VMI?. Cost is $29. REGISTER HERE
  2. Sunday, March 6 is the VAC/VAWA Folkstyle Freshman State Tournament, Sophomore State Tournament and Super States at Riverbend High School in Fredericksburg, Virginia. This is a great tournament for our wrestlers! I'm unsure if I will be able to attend, but that shouldn't stop you from going! I'll work on trying to get a coach there. If you plan on attending please make plans to carpool. Local satellite weigh-ins are at Hayfield High School on Saturday, March 5 from 5PM to 6:30PM. Contact Roy Hill at (540)587-4068 or rhill3@fcps.edu. Cost is $35. REGISTER HERE
  3. Saturday, March 12 at 8AM at St. Christopher's School (Richmond, VA) a clinic featuring Bill Zadick, the Olympic Freestyle Developmental Coach for USA Wrestling, NCAA Champion, and World Freestyle Champion. Also featuring Mike Zadick, 2008 Olympian and 2006 World Freestyle Silver Medalist. Cost is $20. REGISTER HERE
  4. Sunday, March 13 is the MAWA District Qualifier Tournament at Fauquier High School. This is a great local tournament! Weigh-ins are Saturday, March 12 from 3:30PM to 4:30PM OR Sunday, March 13 from 7AM to 8AM at Fauquier. Cost is $35. REGISTER HERE
  5. Thursday, March 17 through Saturday, March 19 is the NCAA National Wrestling Championships. All wrestlers should watch this tournament on ESPN channels! More information here.
  6. Wednesday, March 23 through Friday, March 25 is FloNationals at Indiana University in Pennsylvania. This is one of the best tournaments in the country and is recommended for experienced wrestlers. However, wrestling the best wrestlers is great for experience! Raise the bar! REGISTER HERE
  7. Thursday, March 31 through Sunday, April 3 is the Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior National Tournaments at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. Again, this is one of the best tournament in the country and is recommended for experienced wrestlers. However, wrestling the best wrestlers is great for experience! Plus the tournament is close in Virginia Beach! REGISTER HERE
  8. Saturday, April 9 at Hayfield High School is the NOVA Freestyle and Greco Tournament. More information will come soon. Contact Roy Hill at (540)587-4068 or rhill3@fcps.edu for more information.
USA Wrestling Card Membership
All Chantilly Wrestlers need to purchase a USA Wrestling Card Membership at https://www.usawmembership.com/. Wrestlers should purchase the membership that covers Freestyle, Greco, and Folkstyle. This is important for insurance and for wrestling in tournaments throughout the spring, summer, and fall. Do not worry about choosing a "Wrestling Club" at this point. We are planning on adding "Dulles Mat Club", but for now just bypass this choice.

Singlets and Gear
I have offseason "Dulles Mat Club Livewire" singlets, shorts, and shirts for sale. Singlets are $40 each and come in two colors: RED and BLUE. Shirts and shorts are $10 OR $15 for both. I would recommend all wrestlers purchase a headgear and a singlet for offseason tournaments. Also, freestyle and greco tournaments want you to have a red and a blue singlet for tournaments (it's the rules). I will loan out Chantilly singlets for the spring/summer if needed...just let me know!
