Chargers go 1-1 in their first two dual matches

The Charger grapplers opened their dual season with matches against two solid northern region opponents: the Robinson Rams and the Annandale Atoms.

The Chargers wrestled tough against the Rams, the 2008 NOVA Classic Champions, but ultimately lost the dual match. Highlights included wins by Senior Captains Chris Cabe (HWT) and Lloyd Tenaglia (125) who both controlled their matches against their district foes. The most exciting match of the night was at 119 lbs, where Sophomore Wes Litton surprised his opponent with a takedown in the closing seconds in order to win his match.

During the second match, the Chargers took control from the beginning. Chris Cabe continued his stellar season with a pin in the second period. The Chargers also had pins by Lloyd Tenaglia, Freshman Sam Cronin (140), and Junior Jack Carlson (145). Again, Wes Litton provided the most exciting match of the dual. After getting down by a seven point deficit, Litton escaped, got a takedown, put his opponent on his back, and received a penalty point to tie the score at eight. In overtime, he showed tremendous heart, and took his opponent down in order to win 10-8.

The Chargers plan to carry their momentum to this Saturday when they compete at the Raider Invitational at Stuart High School.
