JV BASEBALL – CHARGERS SWAT HORNETS 10-0

Game Date
Apr 24, 2008
Score
CHARGERS: 10
HERNDON: 0

A very motivated Chargers squad traveled to Herndon on Thursday night, and came home with a complete 10-0 victory over the previously undefeated Hornets, avenging their only home loss of the year.

Chantilly’s starter Bill Boyle came up big again, tossing a dominant 5 strikeout, 4 hit complete game gem against a very good hitting Herndon team.  The Charger defense turned in a strong effort, converting 13 Hornet ground balls into outs, including 6 that came back to Boyle himself.  Herndon threatened early, getting runners to 2nd and 3rd in 2 of the first 3 innings, but Boyle made big pitches and got big plays behind him to work out of both jams.

With the game tied 0-0 in the top of the 4th, catcher Matt Dewitt broke the ice in a big way, absolutely crushing a solo blast that sailed well over the 30 foot high net behind the 323 sign in left center, and didn’t slow down until it banged off of a warehouse wall some 390 feet from home plate.  Boyle next reached on an error, shortstop Christian Temple singled, then Sam Zimmerman smashed a wicked line drive down the left field line for a 2 run double that made it 3-0.  RBI knocks from Jamie Danehower and Lou Paladeau made it 5-0 and put the game away for good.

Zimmerman led the rest of the offense for the Chargers, going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, 4 RBIs, a stolen base and 2 runs scored.  Temple and 1st baseman Adam Fridy both singled twice and Boyle singled once to round out the Chantilly attack.   Herndon’s right fielder made a terrific defensive play in the 5th, bringing a 321 foot opposite field blast by Boyle back from over the wall.  Chantilly right fielder Beau Rauch made the hustle play of the night in the 7th, scoring all the way from 2nd base on a towering fly ball hit by Dewitt that did not leave the infield.

Chantilly, now 8-2 on the year, comes back home on Friday night to host the Fairfax Rebels at 6:30.
