With the stands full on a gorgeous night for baseball at Chantilly, the JV Chargers jumped on top of Westfield early and never looked back, cruising to a 9-4 win. Leadoff hitter Wes Kerbuski and catcher Matt Dewitt got things started in the first with singles, followed by run scoring doubles from Bill Boyle and Christian Temple, and an RBI single by Sam Zimmerman to give the Chargers a 5-0 lead. Dewitt and AJ Worley both ripped doubles in the 2nd to make it 7-0. In the 3rd, Ben Langford singled, Adam Fridy doubled to deep left, and Dewitt added his 3rd hit of the night to make it 9-0 and complete the scoring for Chantilly .
Starter and winning pitcher Bill Boyle celebrated his birthday by going 4 strong innings. The Bulldogs rallied to score 3 in the 4th, but centerfielder Jamie Danehower tracked down a long drive to left center to get Boyle out of a bases loaded jam. Freshman Will Bashaw contributed 3 strong innings of relief, allowing no runs and striking out 5, including 3 in the 7th to seal the victory. Bashaw also got some strong defensive support in the 6th. Christian Temple made a highlight reel over the shoulder catch to take away a base hit, and 1st baseman Brian Morrow made a slick play on a towering fly ball to shut down another Westfield rally.
The Chargers, now 6-2 on the year, host the Centreville Wildcats Friday night at 6:30.
