Chargers Face Nationally Ranked Competition at VA Duals

Game Date
Jan 9, 2009
Score
CHARGERS: 14
EASTERN REGIONAL, NJ: 59

The Charger Grapplers travelled to Hampton VA for the Virginia Duals; one of the oldest and most respected dual team tournaments in the country. The Chargers fell to Eastern Regional, NJ (ranked #12 nationally) and Nazareth, PA (ranked #45 nationally) on Saturday, before losing a heartbreaker 36-42 against a strong team from Gloucester. Due to the tremendous competition, the Chargers were unable to emerge with a team victory, but several wrestlers had individual accolades.

Senior Captain Chris Cabe (285 lbs) led the way for the Chargers. He showed tremendous poise as he handed defeat to each of his three opponents. At times, Cabe looked like he wrestled at a lighter weight, attempting moves and showing quickness uncommon for a heavyweight wrestler. It is clear that Cabe is the heavyweight to beat in the Northern Region, and his experience on the national level is one of the major factors contributing to his success.

Junior Jack Carlson (145 lbs) also turned in a strong weekend for the Chargers. He went 2-1 on the weekend, and looked extremely strong as he wrestled top competition. Also adding wins for the Chargers were Freshman Joe Rainey (103 lbs), Sophomores Zach Spencer (112 lbs), and Wes Litton (119 lbs), and Seniors Lloyd Tenaglia (125 lbs), Dan Hudson (130 lbs), Zach Dratch (189 lbs), and Stephen Cobb (215 lbs).

Next up for the Chargers are the Cavaliers of Woodson High School. This is a Charity Match so all proceeds from the match will go to charity. Please come out to Woodson and support your Varsity Wrestlers.
