The Charger wrestlers traveled to J.E.B. Stuart High School Saturday for the Raider Invitational. The Chargers finished second overall, placing 11 wrestlers in the top 4 of their respective weight classes, and every wrestler won at least one match. The grapplers fell just short of the team title to a tough AA team from Warren County, Virginia. Several wrestlers medaled for the first time, and 3 individual wrestlers won their weight classes, including Senior Captain Lloyd Tenaglia (125 lbs) who captured his 100th and 101st wins in a Charger Singlet. Additionally, he was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.
The Chargers had three individual champions at the Raider Invitational. In addition to Tenaglia, Senior Captain Chris Cabe (HWT) and Junior Captain Jack Carlson (145 lbs) each won their individual weight classes, while Senior Captain Dan Hudson showed tremendous heart finishing second at 135 lbs.
Tenaglia showed why he is considered one of the top wrestlers in the region with an individual title, and his 100th and 101st wins as a Charger. He displayed outstanding poise and technique on his undefeated day. Carlson provided the most entertaining finals match of the night, completely dominating every aspect of his match on his way to a 21-6 technical fall, his second technical fall of the tournament, and an undefeated day. Cabe continued to show the form that led his top finish at the 2008 NOVA Classic, adding a second title to his resume this year. Cabe won two straight matches, and showed his wrestling experience in a close finals match, which was sealed with a late third period takedown from the Charger Heavyweight. Coming off a serious shoulder injury last year, Senior Captain Dan Hudson made his first finals, and wrestled resiliently on his way to a second place finish.
