Chantilly Swims at States

Virginia High School League AAA State Championship Results

Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center – GMU

February 20-21, 2009

The Chargers boys sent two relay teams and two individual swimmers in four events to the Virginia State AAA Championships.  After several competitive swims, the Charger boys finished in 11th place overall.  One individual and two relay team records were broken in this very fast meet.  Matt Benecki shattered his previous Virginia State meet record and last week’s regional record in the 500 free with an Automatic All America time of 4:25.72 in an awesome display of swimming power.  The boys 200 free relay with Greg Borowski, Brian Rothschild, Matt Benecki and Mitch Phillips set a new school record with an All America Consideration time of 128.20.  The same team of Borowski, Rothschild, Benecki and Phillips also broke the school record for the second time this year in the 400 free relay with an All America Consideration time of 3:12.57.

The Chantilly girls sent three relays and three individual girls to the championships in five events for a total of eight swims.  The girls finished in 6th place – a big improvement over the team’s 13th place finish in 2008.  One relay record and two individual team records were broken.  The 200 medley relay with Shannon Silsby, Becca Yost, Elizabeth Hall and Lauren Bachman broke the Charger team record for the third week in a row with an All America Consideration time of 1:49.48.   In the 50 free, Elizabeth Hall set a new Chantilly record with an Automatic All America time of 23.64.  Hall also broke her team record in the 100 fly for all three post-season meets with an Automatic All America time of 55.67.
