Lee District – The Chantilly Chargers visited the Edison Eagles of the Patriot District in the Chargers’ only out-of-district meet of the season. The Chargers easily defeated the Eagles in a late night match up.
The Charger boys took first place in 6 of 12 events and had strong contributions from across the team on their way to a win over the Eagles. The final score of the boys’ competition was 193-121. After four meets, the Charger boys have an overall record of 3-1.
The first Charger victory of the evening was a first and second place finish by Luke Leuterio and Brian O’Connell in diving. Brian Rothschild finished first in the 100 free followed by Matt Benecki with a first place finish in the 500 free. In the 100 back, Kyle Ford, Will Schulte and Blair Mason went 1-2-3. Josh Clougherty captured his first victory of the season in the following event in the 100 breast. The boys delivered a 1-2 punch in the last event of the evening in the 400 free relay with M. Benecki, Greg Borowski, Rothschild and Mitch Phillips swimming for a first place finish and Matt Megaw, Chris Shifflett, Kevin Nguyen and Ford finishing second.
Girls Competition
The Charger girls never trailed and were very impressive claiming 10 of 12 event victories over the Eagles with a final score of 212-103. The Charger girls record is now 3-1.
The first victory of the night was in the 200 medley relay. Shannon Silsby, Becca Yost, Elizabeth Hall and Lauren Bachman easily took first place followed by Samantha Reeves, Sarah Graupp, Alexis Regan and Maggie Shaw in second. In the next event, Shaw stepped up to deliver a first place in the 200 free. The Charger girls swept the following event with Yost, Silsby, Olivia McKnight and Angela Virostek finishing 1-2-3-4. Iren Tete delivered a big win in the diving event. The Charger girls were strong in the 100 fly with Hall first, Bachman second, Rita Miller third and Hayley Thomas fourth to deliver the second clean sweep for the girls. In the next event, Yost placed first in the 100 free for her second victory. The Charger girls came out strong again in the 500 free with Regan, Graupp, Julie Lajoie and Maryn Stehnach going 1-2-3-4 for the third clean sweep of the evening. The girls delivered a 1-2 victory in the 200 free relay with the team of Yost, Leigh Siegfried, Shaw and Bachman in first followed by Reeves, Genevieve Manley, Graupp and Silsby in second. Hall captured her second individual victory of the night in the 100 back. The 400 free relay teams of Bachman, Shaw, Regan and Hall took first while Siegfried, Graupp, Reeves and Silsby easily took second to conclude the meet.
Charger Individual Victory Summary
Becca Yost (200IM and 100 free) and Elizabeth Hall (100 fly and 100 back) were double event winners for the girls.
Luke Leuterio (1M diving), Brian Rothschild (100 free), Matt Benecki (500 free), Kyle Ford (100 back) and Josh Clougherty (100 breast) were individual winners for the boys. Maggie Shaw (200 free), Iren Tete (1M diving), and Alexis Regan (500 free) were individual winners for the girls.
Next meet will be Friday January 16, 2009 at 6:30 at Cub Run vs. the Fairfax Rebels. The Rebel girls are the defending VHSL AAA champions.
