Chargers Swim Past Centreville

Oak Marr Recreation Center – The Chantilly Chargers visited the Centreville Wildcats in the Chargers’ third AAA Concorde District meet of the season.  The Charger boys and girls never trailed in the meet and had some outstanding swims to defeat the Cats.

Boys Competition

The Charger boys took first place in 11 of 12 events on their way to their victory over the Centreville squad.  The final score of the boys’ competition was 219-92.  After three meets, the Charger boys have an overall record of 2-1.

The first Charger victory of the evening was the 200 medley relay with Kyle Ford, Brian Rothschild, Mitch Phillips and Matt Benecki setting a new team record. Phillips looked impressive swimming a State cut, followed by Matt Megaw, Kevin Benecki and Brian Miller to sweep the 200 free.  M. Benecki and Chris Shifflett went 1-2 in the 200 IM.  Rothschild and Greg Borowski took first and second in the 50 free. Luke Leuterio and Brian O’Connell went 1-2 in diving for the second week in a row.  Ford captured a win in the 100 fly.  Phillips then swam his second State cut of the evening in the 100 free with Borowski finishing second.  Shifflett and Nick Ransom went 1-2 in the 500 free.  Kevin Nguyen, Aaron Reilly, Megaw and Borowski were easy winners in the 200 free relay.  M. Benecki, Ford and Nguyen went 1-3 in the 100 back. Borowski, M. Benecki, Rothschild and Phillips delivered the boys final victory of the night in the 400 free relay.

Girls Competition

The Charger girls were also impressive claiming 10 of 12 event victories over the Wildcat squad.  The Charger girls’ overall record is 2-1.

The first victory of the night was Shannon Silsby, Becca Yost, Lauren Bachman and Leigh Siegfried swimming a State cut to win the 200 medley relay.  Alexis Regan, Sarah Graupp and Julie Lajoie swept the Cats in the 200 free.  Yost then followed with a nice win in the 200 IM.  Elizabeth Hall took first in the 50 free.  Iren Tete was impressive in her diving victory.  Hall scored her second victory in the 100 free.  Regan, Graupp, Lajoie and Kathleen Brophy swept the field in the 500 free.  Bachman, Siegfried, Yost and Hall combined to win the 200 free relay for a State cut. Silsby took first in the 100 back.  The 400 free relay teams of Graupp, Samantha Reeves, Regan and Hall took first while Brophy, Ziwei Li, Lajoie and Silsby finished a strong second to conclude the meet.

Charger Individual Victory Summary

Mitch Phillips (200 free & 100 free) and Matt Benecki (200 IM & 100 back) were double event winners for the boys.  Alexis Regan (200 free & 500 free) and Elizabeth Hall (50 free & 100 free) were double event winners for the girls.

Brian Rothschild (50 free), Luke Leuterio (1M diving), Kyle Ford (100 fly), and Chris Shifflett (500 free) were individual winners for the boys.  Becca Yost (200 IM), Iren Tete (1M diving), and Shannon Silsby (100 back) were individual winners for the girls.
