On Saturday, May 31, the 2008 Spring Track season came to an exciting end for the Chargers, who finished up two strong showings at the regional and track meets.

Junior Wes Sun capped his best season yet with his highest state-placing in his career.  For the fourth time this season, he equalled his personal best mark, at 14' 0". This height, however, earned him honors over the past few weeks as the first male regional champion Chantilly has had for years, and then, this weekend, he beat the heat and the competition to earn 3rd place in the state meet.  He was joined by twin brother Curtis, who equalled his best with a 13' 0" leap, placing 11th in the state meet.

Sophomore Chris Foley also completed a career season, and had the best three weeks of his short career. After winning the district 3200m title, he followed it up with a personal best mark of 9:31.07 at regionals, which earned him a 3rd place finish.  At the state meet, he fought through intense heat as well as the state's best distance runners to earn his first all-state medal, finishing 8th place.  He was joined at the state meet by senior Eric Palmer, who ran in the 1600m run.  Palmer also capped off a solid high school career at the regional meet, finishing 6th in the event with a personal best time of 4:25.86.

Two other athletes earned trips to the state meet, and ended with solid results.  Senior Bugsy Urrutia earned All-Region honors in the 100m (6th place) and 200m (3rd) dashes, displaying a strong sense of competitive consistancy. Freshman Amira Idris also earned her trip to the state meet in the 100m Dash and triple jump.  In the latter event, en route to earning a 6th place regional finish, she also re-set her own school record at 36' 6.25".

Other athletes earning All-Region Honors, but not making it to the state meet included Kyle Cantrell (7th place- Pole Vault), Robert Herrity (8th Place- 110m Hurdles) Kim Weinberg (8th Place-Pole Vault) and Genevieve Manley (7th Place -200m Dash). The girls 4x100m Relay team of Idris, Manley, Meera Abdul-Malek and Tyeshia Jarret also placed 5th.
