On Friday & Saturday, April 11-12th, the Charger Spring Track Team continued to find early season success, as they build up to next month's district championship, competing at the Metro Run & Walk Northern Virginia Invitational, held at Edison High School.  The Chargers earned several medals, and three automatic regionally qualifying performances on the rainy weekend.

Indoor Track Boys MVP, Raymond "Bugsy" Urrutia made his 2008 Invitaitonal debut, and in earning three medals and regional qualifying mark, shows that he has not lost a step thus far from his successful winter season.  His time of 23.15 in the 200m dash earned him a trip to regionals, and a 5th place medal.  He also posted a solid early season time in the 100m dash (11.55- 4th place), and anchored the 4x100m relay team, with senior Robert Herrity, junior Efraem Salas, and freshman Mohammed Labor-Koroma to an impressive 2nd place.  Herrity also earned a regional mark in the 110m hurdles, in a personal best time of 15.58.  Junior Curtis Sun earn the team's lone first place with his performance in the pole vault (12' 6"), also punching his ticket to regionals.  The boys distance medley relay also earned medals with their 4th place finish.  The team included seniors Eric Palmer and Mike Holton, junior Wilson Bever, and anchored by sophomore Chris Foley.

The girls team also had a fine showing.  Freshman Amira Idris scored the lone regional mark, with her 7th place in the 100m dash.  Junior Kim Weinberg and sophomore Jenn Withers tied for 4th place in the pole vault.  Other highlight performances included personal or seasonal bests from thrower Jane Saunders, distance runners Lauren Lenski and Hannah Strub, jumper Leah Soukup, and sprinters Nina Ullom and Genevieve Manley.

The Chargers continue their season on Wednesday, with a tri-meet with Robinson at Oakton.  The next invitational will be the Allen Johnson Invitational at Lake Braddock Secondary, to be held on Friday & Saturday, April 18th-19th.

On a related note, the coaching staff wishes to congratulate juniors Lia DiValentin & Wes Sun, who were named this past week to the Washington Post's 1st Team All Met, for winter track.  We are very proud of their accomplishments.
