Oakton is the Model of Efficiency Against Chantilly
Despite out-hitting its opponent, the Chantilly Varsity Softball team fell behind early and succumbed to the Oakton Cougars 3-1 Tuesday night in Chantilly. Oakton managed only three hits, but took advantage of a few fielding miscues to score three runs. Meanwhile, Chantilly sprayed five hits throughout seven innings and only posed a threat in the bottom of the last inning. Down 3-0 in the seventh, Rachel Major led off with a single and Wendy Sloan followed with a shot down third that was mishandled by the third baseman, leaving runners at first and second with no outs. Aimee Knecht laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third with one out. Danny Almodiel followed with a sacrifice bunt to bring home Rachel Major from third base, closing the gap to 3-1. Unfortunately, that run was the only one the Lady Chargers' could muster, thereby allowing Oakton to avenge its loss to Chantilly earlier this season.
Emily Gembarowicz turned in another notable performance on the mound for the Lady Chargers by fanning 8 batters and allowing three hits, with only one of those hits coming after the first inning.
The Lady Chargers hit the road Friday night to take on the Centreville Wildcats at 6:30 pm in Centreville.
