Varsity Softball Narrowly Falls to Mount Vernon

In a hard-fought contest, the Chantilly Varsity Softball team fell to Mount Vernon 5-4 tonight in Alexandria.  Mount Vernon held a 2-0 lead after the first innning, but the Lady Chargers answered in the second inning with 3 runs and held a 4-3 lead after four innings.  They took this lead into the sixth inning, but Mount Vernon tied the score on a controversial call at the plate and went ahead 5-4 on another close call at home.  Tori Dougherty led off the top of the seventh with a single to center, but the Mount Vernon pitcher was able to keep the next three Chantilly hitters at bay and seal the victory.     

The Lady Chargers' offense was led tonight by Wendy Sloan, Tori Doherty and Bryanna Kerbuski, who all had 2 hits apiece.  Emily Gembarowicz led the Chantilly defense by recording 8 strikeouts while only allowing 3 hits.

Next up for the Lady Chargers is West Springfield on Friday at 6:30 pm in Springfield.
