The lady Chargers continued their winning trend last night, beating South County 4-2 at home. The Stallions started the game fast, scoring 2 goals in the first 15 minutes. But, Chantilly found a spark about 10 minutes later when reserve forward Brooke Daniels broke through the South County defense and went one on one with the keeper, slotting the ball underneath her for goal number 1. Less than 3 minutes later, senior Cortlyn Bristol sent a perfect through ball to Kelsey Harney who was streaking down the flank, and beat the keeper for goal number 2. Tied up 2-2 with a little over a minute to play in the half, the Chargers again put pressure on the South County defense. Junior Jenna Goffe, controlled the ball, beat a player and then sent the ball into the far side netting to put the Chargers up 3-2 at the half.
The second half showed even more physical play, with many fouls being called, and yellow cards being issued. South County put high pressure on the Chargers and at times controlled the play. With about 15 minutes to play in the game, freshman midfielder Olivia Colella received a ball and released a great shot that was saved by the South County keeper, but followed up by Katie Menzie who put the ball safely in the back of the net. This clinched the game for the Chargers, who will now move on to the Region Quarter Finals on Wednesday, 5 PM at Robinson HS.
