The Chargers ended their district schedule in strong fashion beating Centreville 3-0 yesterday. Because of yet again more rain, the game was moved to Poplar Tree Park and played on a turf field. In the opening 10 minutes of the game, Kristen Melchiori put in a fantastic individual effort on an initial shot and then followed her own rebound to put the ball in the goal. Less than 10 minutes later, senior Katie Menzie served a nearly perfect ball onto the back side for freshman Olivia Colella to head over a charging Centreville keeper. In the second half, Cortlyn Bristol finished off the Wildcats with a long rocket shot over keeper's reach, assist from Madyson Brown. Defensively, keeper Lauren Jancuska had another shutout. Jancuska has only allowed 3 goals all season, which is close to best in the league.
With this win, the Chargers will be the #2 seed in the Concorde District Tournament beginning on Monday. They will play the #7 seeded Fairfax Rebels at home on Monday night, 7 PM. Go Chargers!
