The Lady Chargers beat the previously unbeaten Oakton Cougars on Friday night, 2-1 in a very well played game. They now move into a tie for second place in the District, along with Centreville whom they end with next week.
First goal was scored by Jane Muir after Katelyn Manley made a wonderful run down the right wing and struck a good shot that the keeper could not hold on to. Muir finished the shot, but assist to Manley for her efforts. Oakton struck back with a goal late in the half. In the second half, the Chargers scored once again but this time off a perfectly served corner kick from Katie Menzie. Senior Kristen Melchiori held her ground near post and flicked the ball in the goal off the serve.
Good defensive effort out of Kelsey Reiman, Lauren Yates, Eileen Sechler and Madyson Brown. Player of the game, though, goes to freshman Olivia Colella for her high work rate and consistency in the midfield.
