STONE BRIDGE HS: 1
Chantilly Boys played host in the season opener to Stone Bridge for the second part of a varsity doubleheader. Early in the contest, the Chargers combination passing found its way on the foot of Luke Summers who looped a ball over top for a running Sami Abbasi. Abbasi played a hard ball across the goal where Senior Captain Ryan Kraus was waiting to tap it home. The rest of the first half saw both defenses tighten up and the Chargers took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Stone Bridge came out with determination to start the second and pressure mounted until a breakthrough came. SB headed home on a lost mark via a corner kick to equalize. From there, the match became a back-and-forth contest as the midfield stretched. On one such run, Chantilly's Josh Lee corralled a ball deep in the left corner before finding Brandon Park in the box. Park turned and hit a curling shot past the SB keeper and into the net to the delight of our home fans. SB would push numbers and bring pressure deep into stoppage time, but the back line including Nathan Lee, Sam Keagy, Alex Maxseiner, Seth Litchfield and Paul Castle, along with strong keeper play from Calum Smeaton held strong. The Chargers were also paced in midfield by relentless work rates coming from Yahya Abou-Ghazala and Nick Novotny.
CHS travels to Lake Braddock this Friday night for a snowfest shootout.
