In a game which almost got away from them, the Varsity Chantilly Chargers defeated the Mt. Vernon Majors, 7-6. Starting pitcher CJ Irwin pitched 6 innings for the win. Closer Joe Danehower held on for the save. Chantilly batters produced 8 hits, including a 2 run homer by catcher Matt Dewitt.

The Majors scored first in the bottom of the 1st inning after a double and 2 singles. In the top of the 2nd inning leadoff batter Matt Dewitt was hit by a pitch. He reached 3rd on a double by Nick Kralles, and scored on a reach-by-error by Ben Langford. Nick Kralles then scored on a fielder's choice hit by Jamie Danehower.

In the top of the 3rd inning Brian King singled, and Matt Dewitt slammed a 2 run home run over the left center field fence.

In the top of the 4th leadoff batter Ben Langford reached first on an error, advanced to second on a ground ball, advanced to third on a single by Joe Danehower, and scored on a double by Danny Bates. A sac fly by Brian King scored Joe Danehower.

In the 6th inning Jamie Danehower led off with a walk, and scored on a double by his brother Joe.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Majors loaded the bases with no outs after a single and 2 Charger fielding errors. After striking out 2, closer Joe Danehower gave up a walk and a grand slam, bringing the score to 7-6. A shoestring catch by outfielder Tim Bollinger ended the game.

Matt Dewitt (HR, 2 RBI) led Chantilly's offense. Also contributing were Joe Danehower (2B, 1B, BB, RBI), Nick Kralles (2B, BB), Wes Kerbuski (2B, BB), Danny Bates (2B, RBI), Brian King (1B, RBI), Kevin McGrath (1B), Jamie Danehower (BB), and Sam Zimmerman (BB).

Starter CJ Irwin struck out 1, walked 2, allowed 4 hits, and had 1 earned run. Joe Danehower struck out 2, walked 1, allowed 2 hits, and had no earned runs.

Chantilly plays away at Oakton next Tuesday at 6:30 PM.
