(Chantilly, VA)The Chargers banged out 11 hits and got solid pitching from starter Jordan Johnson and three innings of 1-hit relief from senior right hander Chris Yates in a convincing 7-2 win over the South County Stallions in a Northern Region quarter final match-up at Robinson High School on Memorial Day. With the win Chantilly advances to the tournament semi-final game on Wednesday night to face the West Springfield Spartans, who defeated Robinson 1-0 earlier in the day. 
 
South County nicked Johnson for the first run of the game in the top of the 2nd inning as third baseman Seth Jordan and left fielder Sean Adams led off with back-to-back doubles. The score remained 1-0 until the 4th when Chantilly shortstop Chris Yates led off with a line single to left. First baseman Brian King’s double down the left field line advanced the runners to scoring position, and designated hitter Brandon Beckner’s base hit tied the game at 1-all. Right fielder Justin Carwile continued the Charger rally with a double to left, bringing home King and Beckner to put Chantilly up 3-1. 
 
The Stallions got a run back in the 5th inning on two infield errors and a wild pitch, but the Chargers continued to slug the ball in their half of the frame. Third baseman Max Langford led off with a line single to center. On a 3-2 count catcher Keith Morrisroe blasted a triple to deep center field bring home Langford. After an intentional walk to left fielder Patrick Moore, Yates followed with a fielder’s choice grounder to second to score Morrisroe, putting Chantilly up 5-2. The Chargers added two more runs in the 6th as second baseman Danny Bates was hit by a pitch, advanced on center fielder Chris Gentile’s bunt base hit, and scored on Langford’s RBI single to right center. Morrisroe’s double play grounder scored Gentile to boost the score to the final margin of 7-2.
               
Chantilly’s offense was paced by four players who had two hits apiece, including Brandon Beckner, who was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Keith Morrisroe, 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI, Max Langford, 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Chris Gentile, 2 for 4. Justin Carwile had a double to drive in two runs and Brian King doubled in the key 4th inning.  
 
The Chargers’ starter, junior left hander Jordan Johnson, went 4 innings for the win, giving up 1 run on 5 hits, walking 1 and striking out 1. Senior right hander Chris Yates threw 3 innings in relief, giving up 1 hit, 1 walk and striking out 5.
 
The Chargers are now 17-6 overall on the season, and square off against West Springfield at 7 pm Wednesday at South County high school in the Northern Region semifinals.
