(Chantilly, VA) – The Chantilly varsity baseball team edged Herndon in a make-up home game Thursday night 4-3, needing a four run rally in the 4th inning for the victory. The win gives the Chargers a sweep of the season series against the Hornets and ups their overall record to 11-4 and 7-1 in the Concorde District.
The Chargers fell behind in the 3rd inning as Herndon scored three runs by sandwiching two base hits around a walk, a hit batter, and defensive miscues by the home team. But the Hornets would only muster one more hit against Chantilly’s starting pitcher Patrick Somers the rest of the game. In the Chantilly 4th inning catcher Keith Morrisroe ignited a rally with a lead-off single to right field and advanced to second base on a botched pick-off attempt by the Herndon pitcher. After designated hitter Will Christopher lined a double down the right field line to score Morrisroe, left fielder Patrick Moore walked and right fielder Danny Phillips delivered an RBI base hit to left. Shortstop Danny Bates capped the rally with a two-out triple to center field to score the final two Chantilly runs of the inning.
