Boys Varsity Baseball vs. ROBINSON SECONDARY
- Game Date
- May 8, 2012
- CHARGERS: 3
ROBINSON SECONDARY: 4
Robinson rallied for 3 runs in the 7th inning to come back and beat Chantilly 4-3 on Tuesday night. After Robinson’s stirring comeback, Chantilly – who had led from the 1st inning - made it interesting in the bottom of the 7th. Down by a run, Tommy Vance led off with a line drive to the fence, but Robinson executed a perfect relay including an absolute laser from their 2nd baseman to nail Vance at 3rd base on a close call that could have gone either way. Mike Sciorra then reached base on an error, and Sonny Romine followed with shot down the left field line that was foul by a couple of feet. Ultimately, despite multiple near-misses the Chargers came up short, could not score, and lost a tough, close district game on Senior Night.
Chantilly’s offense was led by Kevin Johnston (single, RBI) and Tommy Vance (double, walk, run). Also contributing were Sonny Romine (walk, 2 runs) and Jake Acosta (2 walks). Caleb Reinhardt started the game and allowed just 1 run through 6 innings. Reinhardt ran into trouble in the 7th when Robinson strung together 3 hits. Chris Fraser came in to relieve Reinhardt and, after giving up one additional hit Fraser retired the final two Ram batters – keeping the Chargers within one run.
To their credit, Robinson pitched outstanding and came through with clutch hits. And, after a shaky first inning their defense came on strong - including the play of the night catching Vance at 3rd base to hold off the Chargers.
Chantilly closes out the regular season this Friday at 6:30pm at Centreville, and then the Concorde District Tournament begins next week.
