Chantilly lost to Herndon 11-5 in a game that saw the usually sound Charger defense give away 4 unearned runs with 2 errors in a 7-run second inning. Chantilly hit the ball well all night and with one out in the 6th inning the Chargers had closed the gap to just 8-5 with runners on 2nd and 3rd, but the rally ended there and Herndon was able to tack on 3 more insurance runs in the 7th.
Chantilly’s offense was led by Daniel Speed (double, single, run), Sam Hellman (2 doubles) and Mike Sciorra (2 singles, rbi). Also contributing were Tommy Vance (single, walk, 2 runs), Jake Acosta (single, walk, run), Kevin Johnston (double, walk, rbi), Casey Gittings (single, walk, run), Sonny Romine (walk), and Eason Recto (rbi).
Defensive highlights for the Chargers included a diving unassisted play at first base by Casey Gittings, and a sprinting full-out diving catch by Sonny Romine in left field.
Chantilly (11-6) next hosts Robinson on Senior Night this Tuesday at 6:30.
