Centreville beat Chantilly 2-1 on Tuesday night in a tough game that featured effective pitching, 7 hits for each team, and outstanding defensive play on both sides. Caleb Reinhardt started the game for Chantilly. After giving up 2 runs on 3 hits in the first inning, Reinhardt got stronger and stronger and shut down Centreville the rest of the game. Down 2-1 with 2 outs and men on 1st and 2nd in the bottom of the 7th, Tommy Vance stepped to the plate needing a hit to tie or win the game. Vance roped a line drive headed towards right-center, but the ball stayed low and was caught by the raised glove of Centreville’s 2nd baseball to seal the win for Wildcats.
Chantilly’s offense was led by Cory Donovan (3 singles) and Tommy Vance (double). Also contributing were Eason Recto (single, run), Casey Gittings (single), Mike Sciorra (single), and Sonny Romine (single). Chantilly had several additional chances for base hits, but often this night a ball hit on the nose ended up in a Wildcat glove. SS Tommy Vance, 3B Sam Hellman, and P Caleb Reinhardt all had particularly strong games in the field for Chantilly, making numerous quality plays to get important outs. In the end, this was Centreville’s night to win a close game.
Chantilly (11/3) next plays Westfield at 6:30 on Friday night at Chantilly.
