(Centreville, VA)The Chargers varsity baseball squad picked up its eighth victory in its last nine games Friday night with a 15-2 victory over the Centreville Wildcats. Chantilly pounded out a season-high 17 base hits in the win, getting offensive contributions from 12 different players, and pitchers Max Langford and John Colella combined on a 4-hitter to shut down Centreville bats.   
 
The Chargers opened the game with six runs in the 1st inning. Starting with senior pitcher Max Langford’s single up the middle, Chantilly strung together seven base hits capped by junior shortstop Danny Bates’ 2-RBI double to deep center field. They added another three runs in the second, four more in the 3rd, and one each in the 4th and 5th innings. The offense was led by Bates, who was 3 for 3 with two doubles and five RBIs, outfielders Danny Phillips and Brandon Beckner, and pitcher John Colella, who were each 2 for 2 with RBIs, and first baseman Brian King, who had a double and 2 RBIs. Also driving in runs with base hits were designated hitter Will Christopher, left fielder Patrick Moore, and second baseman Roger Strittmatter.  Catcher Keith Morrisroe and outfielders Justin Carwile and Joe Danehower each singled in the game.
 
Chantilly’s starting pitcher, Max Langford, went 3 innings, giving up 3 hits, 1 walk, and no earned runs while striking out 6 batters. Junior John Collela pitched 2 innings in relief, giving up 1 hit and striking out 3.
 
The Chargers are now 10-4 on the season and 6-1 in the Concorde District.  They play Herndon at home on Tuesday at 6:30 pm.
