(Chantilly, VA) – Chantilly’s varsity baseball team dropped a home match-up to the Oakton Cougars Monday night 10-4.  

 

With patient Oakton hitters drawing walks, the Cougars added timely hitting – including two run-scoring triples – to build a 5-0 lead after two innings. A four-run 4^th inning gave Oakton a commanding lead that they would not relinquish, despite Chantilly rallies in both the 4^th and 5^th innings. Chantilly tried to mount a comeback in the 4^th as catcher Keith Morrisroe led off with a base on balls, and right fielder Danny Phillips kept the rally going with a single to left. Designated hitter Will Christopher capped the effort with a double over the center fielder’s head driving in two runs, but the Chargers could score no further in the inning. In the 5^th Chantilly began a two-out comeback starting with a double by shortstop Chris Yates, a walk to Keith Morrisroe, and an RBI single by third baseman Max Langford. A second Charger run scored on a throwing error by the Oakton shortstop, but again the comeback bid fell short. 

 

Chantilly’s offense was led by Will Christopher who went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs. Chris Gentile and Chris Yates both contributed doubles, and Danny Phillips and Max Langford (RBI) singled for the Chargers. The Chargers’ pitching was highlighted by junior John Colella who pitched 3 strong innings in relief, giving up 1 hit and striking out 3.

 

The Chargers are now 8-4 on the season and 4-1 in the Concorde District. They play away at Westfield Wednesday night at 6:30 pm.
