Varsity Baseball – Chargers Beat Robinson Rams 8-5

(Fairfax, VA)On the strength of a 3-run home run from senior left fielder Pat Moore and a gritty pitching performance from left-hander Patrick Somers,Chantilly downed Concorde District foe Robinson High School 8-5 Friday night.  
 
The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning on two base hits, but the Chargers roared back in the top of the 3rd to plate five runs. Second baseman Danny Bates led off the inning with a single up the middle, and center fielder Chris Gentile followed with a bunt base hit. After catcher Keith Morrisroe walked to load the bases, third baseman Max Langford doubled to right center to drive in two runs and Pat Moore followed with an RBI single. Right fielder Danny Phillips drove in the final run of the inning with a base hit to center field.  Robinson got two runs back in their half of the frame, but Chantilly put the game out of reach in the 4th. After Keith Morrisroe singled and Max Langford walked, Pat Moore hammered a 3-1 fastball over the left-center field fence to give the Chargers an 8-3 lead. The Rams scored one run in the 6th and another in the 7th before Chantilly’s junior right-hander John Colella came in to shut the door and seal the win.
 
The Chargers’ starting pitcher Patrick Somers went 6 1/3 innings, giving up 8 hits, 1 walk, 3 earned runs and he struck out 9 Robinson batters. Offensively Chantilly was led by Pat Moore, who was 2 for 4 with a home run and 4 RBIs. Max Langford had a double and 2 RBIs, and Danny Phillips contributed an RBI with a single. Chris Gentile, Keith Morrisroe, Brian King, and Danny Bates all had base hits for the Chargers. 
 
The Chargers are now 8-3 on the season and 4-0 in the Concorde District. They play at home against Oakton on Monday night.
