With one out in the top of the 7th and the score Chantilly 6, Centreville 4, the heart of the Wildcat lineup was coming up to bat. Left fielder Mark McCormick slammed a single to right field on a 3-2 pitch. The Centreville catcher, Bobby San Martin, hit a double down the left field line, advancing McCormick to third. The next batter, second baseman Mark Behne, who was the potential go-ahead run, hit a towering fly ball to right field. The ball was easily caught by Connor Major, but McCormick scored after tagging up, bringing the Wildcats to within 1 run of the Chargers. Right fielder Chris Simpson then hit a slow ground ball to third, which was fielded on the run by Ben Langford and thrown to first, in time, for the last out. The final score was 6-5.
