In a game which turned out to be a hit-fest for both teams, the Chantilly Chargers (13 hits) lost to the Herndon Hornets (14 hits), 8-7. The major factor affecting the outcome was that Chantilly left 11 runners on base, while the Hornets only stranded 8.
Chantilly scored 6 of its runs in the 2nd inning, when the batting order batted around, and two batters batted twice. Most of the runs came on a 2-run home run by Jamie Danehower, and a 2-RBI single by Connor Major. Sam Zimmerman notched an RBI on a fielder's choice, and Brian Morrow drove in one more on a single to left field. The only other Charger score occurred in the 6th inning, when leadoff batter Brian Morrow hit a double, Sonny Romine bunted him to third, and a Sam Hellman sac fly brought him home. The Hornets scored early, with 4 runs in the first inning, then added individual runs in the 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th innings.
Leading Chantilly's offense were Brian Morrow (2 doubles, single, RBI), Jamie Danehower (home run, 2 RBI), Connor Major (double, single, 2 RBI), Ben Langford (double, single), and Collin Ryan (2 singles). Also contributing were Kevin Johnston (single, 2 walks), Sam Zimmerman (single, stolen base, RBI), Sonny Romine (single, sac bunt), Sam Hellman (RBI), and Brady Caslavka (sac bunt).
Defensively, the Chargers had no errors. Catcher Kevin Johnston threw out a runner trying to steal home.
Pitching for Chantilly were Caleb Reinhardt (2/3 IP, 1 K, 1 walk, 5 hits, 4 ER), Will Bashaw (4-2/3 IP, 0 walks, 9 hits, 4 ER), and Chris Fraser (2/3 IP, 1 walk, 0 hits, 0 ER).
Chantilly starts its post-season when it plays Centreville at home on Wednesday, May 18th, at 6:30 PM.
