The Chantilly Chargers lost to the Centreville Wildcats Friday night, 9-6. The game lasted almost 3 hours because of a lightning sighting, and was distinguished by the hitting of 4 home runs. Though Chantilly out-hit Centreville 12 to 10, the Chargers also left 10 runners on base.
Chantilly, for the second game in a row, scored most of their runs playing small ball. A leadoff walk by Sam Zimmerman in the 2nd inning, followed by a single by Sonny Romine, set up Brady Caslavka, whose bunt single and a throwing error allowed Zimmerman to score. In the 3rd inning a leadoff single by Ben Langford, a passed ball, a walk by Kevin Johnston, a sac bunt by Brian Morrow, and a single by Sam Zimmerman allowed Langford to score. In the next inning a leadoff walk by Connor Major, a passed ball, a ground out by Jamie Danehower, and a single by Ben Langford scored Major. In the later innings Charger bats started hitting long balls. Sonny Romine hit a solo home run in the 5th, just to the right of the scoreboard. Ben Langford hit a two run homer over the fence in left center in the 6th. Unfortunately, Centreville hit two home runs of its own, including a 3-run shot in the 1st innning and a 2-run HR in the 5th.
The Chargers' offense was led by Ben Langford (home run, 3 singles, 3 RBI) and Sonny Romine (home run, single, RBI). Also contributing were Sam Zimmerman (double, single, walk, RBI), Connor Major (single, walk), Brady Caslavka (bunt single, RBI), Kevin Johnston (2 walks), Jamie Danehower (single), Collin Ryan (single), and Brian Morrow (sac bunt).
