The Chantilly Chargers lost to the Oakton Cougars Tuesday night, 5-3. Chantilly, which needed to play small ball for all of its runs, was overwhelmed by Cougar hitting, which included 2 home runs, 3 doubles, and 4 singles.

The Chargers did not score until fairly late in the game. In the 4th inning leadoff batter Collin drew a walk. Ben Langford advanced Ryan when he hit a comebacker to the pitcher, whose throw to second missed. A sac bunt by Kevin Johnston sent Ryan to third, and a ground out by Brian Morrow allowed Ryan to score. In the 5th inning leadoff batter Sam Zimmerman singled, reached second on a called balk, advanced to third after tagging up on a fly ball by Sonny Romine, and scored on a ground out by Connor Major. In the last inning leadoff batter Brady Caslavka reached first on an error, advanced to second on a wild pitch, reached third on a ground out by Sam Zimmerman, and scored on a single by Sonny Romine.

Contributing to Chantilly's offense were Collin Ryan (single, walk, scored), Sonny Romine (single, RBI), Connor Major (single, RBI), Sam Zimmerman (single, scored), Ben Langford (HBP), Kevin Johnston (sac bunt), Brian Morrow (RBI), and Brady Caslavka (scored).

Defensively, catcher Kevin Johnston threw a runner out attempting to steal second. Chantilly had one error.

Starting pitcher Dan Lawler (6 IP, 5 K, 1 walk, 9 hits, 92 pitches) took the loss.

Chantilly plays Centreville at home on Friday.
