YORKTOWN HIGH: 2
The Chargers lost their home opener Friday night against the Yorktown Patriots, 2-1. Though Chantilly pitchers gave up a total of 8 hits they allowed no earned runs, even overcoming a bases-loaded, 1-out jam in the top of the 7th inning. The Patriots instead took advantage of two Charger fielding errors, allowing the win.
Chantilly's only run occurred in the 4th inning. After Kevin Johnston singled to center field, Sam Zimmerman slammed an 0-2 pitch deep to right-center, allowing Jake Acosta, courtesy runner for Johnston, to score. Zimmerman, unfortunately, was injured during the play (pulled hamstring) while rounding second. He is expected to be out about a month.
Charger offense was led by Sam Zimmerman (2B) and Collin Ryan (2B). Also contributing were Kevin Johnston (1B, BB), Tom Wood (1B), Connor Major (sac bunt), and Jake Acosta (HP).
Starting pitcher Caleb Reinhardt (4 K, 4 hits, 4 BB, 0 ER) went just over 5 innings. Will Bashaw (4 K, 4 hits, 0 ER, 2 IP) took the loss.
The Chargers play at Stone Bridge on Monday at 6 PM.
