The Chargers won their season opener at Edison last night, 10-0. Strong pitching and an offense which produced 11 hits contributed to the win.
The Chargers scored early in the 1st inning after Sonny Romine drew a walk, Ben Langford pounded a hit and run single, Kevin Johnston singled, and Edison committed a fielding error. A sac fly by Sam Zimmerman made the score 2-0. In the 3rd inning a walk by Kevin Johnston, a double by Sam Zimmerman, and a single by Brian Morrow added 2 more runs. In the 5th inning back-to-back singles by Kevin Johnston and Sam Zimmerman and a fielder's choice by Brian Morrow allowed both Connor Major and Tom Wood to notch RBI's. In the top of the 7th the Chargers let loose with 4 more runs, scored on 2 walks, 2 fielding errors, a double by Sonny Romine, and a ground out by Ben Langford.
Charger offense was led by Sam Zimmerman (2B, 1B, sac fly RBI) and Sonny Romine (2B, 2 BB, 2 RBI). Also contributing were Kevin Johnston (1B, BB, RBI), Collin Ryan (1B, 1B), Ben Langford (1B, 1B, RBI), Connor Major (1B, 1B, RBI), Brian Morrow (1B, 2 RBI), Brady Caslavka (2 BB), Dan Speed (BB), Casey Gittings (BB), Jake Acosta (SB, RBI), and Tom Wood (RBI).
Starting pitcher Dan Lawler (5 IP, 9 K, 2 BB, 5 hits, 0 ER, 91 pitches) earned the win. Chris Fraser (1 IP, 2 K, 0 hits, 0 ER) and Brett Riddle (1 IP, 0 hits, 0 ER) pitched in relief.
