Chantilly Blanks Centreville 5-0 in District Opener
(Chantilly, VA) – The Charger varsity baseball team began its Concorde District schedule Friday night at home with a 5-0 shutout win over the Centreville Wildcats. Starting pitcher Max Langford pitched 2-hit ball through 6 innings and the Chargers banged out 9 hits in the victory.
Chantilly got on the board in the 2nd inning when shortstop Chris Yates led off with a single, stole second base, and was doubled home by first baseman Brian King. Second baseman Danny Bates followed with another double to drive King home, putting the Chargers up 2-0. The Chantilly squad added another run in the 5th, and two more in the 6th to ice the win, capped by RBI base hits from catcher Keith Morrisroe and pitcher Max Langford.
Offensively, Chantilly was led by Danny Bates, who went 2 for 2 with an RBI, Brian King, 2 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI, and Max Langford, 2 for 4 with a run batted in. Chris Gentile, Keith Morrisroe and Chris Yates added base hits. Centreville managed only 2 hits and 6 base runners against Charger pitching. Max Langford went 6 innings for the win, giving up 2 hits, 2 walks and striking out 4. Chris Yates pitched the 7th inning in relief, yielding no hits or walks and striking out 1.
The Chargers play away at Herndon on Tuesday in another Concorde District match-up.
