ORLANDO NATIONAL BASEBALL CLASSIC: 1
(Orlando, FL) – The Chargers varsity baseball team defeated the Salisbury School Crimson Knights (CT) 6-1 in their final game of the Orlando National Baseball Classic on Thursday. Chantilly’s starting pitcher, senior right-hander Chris Yates, pitched six strong innings and was backed by good defensive play and a nine hit attack.
The Chargers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning on left fielder Danny Phillips’ RBI single to center after catcher Keith Morrisroe walked and advanced to second base on a passed ball. They added another run in the 3rd on designated hitter Will Christopher’s double to center field. Chantilly plated three more runs in the 4th keyed by Morrisroe’s 2-RBI single, and another run in the 5th to lengthen their lead. Morrisroe led the Chargers offense on the day, going 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Other offensive contributors included 3rd baseman Max Langford, 1 for 3 with an RBI, Christopher, 1 for 3 with an RBI double, Phillips, 1 for 3 with an RBI, Yates, 1-3 with a double, and base hits from juniors Danny Bates, Roger Strittmatter, and Nick Kralles.
