Woodson Downs Chantilly 2-1 in Orlando

(Orlando, FL) – The Woodson Cavaliers beat Chantilly 2-1 in the second round of the Orlando National Baseball Classic in Florida on Tuesday. The Chargers got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a single by catcher Keith Morrisroe and an RBI base hit by third baseman Max Langford, who continued his hot tournament hitting. Woodson struck back in the bottom half of the first, plating two runs on four base hits and a Charger error. Neither of the teams scored after the first inning, with Chantilly junior left-hander Jordan Johnson and Woodson starter Matt Coleman squared off in a pitchers duel. Johnson, in his first varsity start for the Chargers, went the distance throwing 6 innings, giving up 5 hits, 2 unearned runs and striking out 2. Chantilly’s offense managed 8 hits on the day, led by left fielder Danny Phillips, who was 2 for 2, and catcher Keith Morrisroe, who was 2 for 4. Other Chargers contributing base hits were Chris Gentile, Kevin McGrath, and Danny Bates.  Chantilly plays its third game of the tournament Wednesday morning against Brentwood Academy (TN).
