The difference in Tuesday night's game between the Chargers and the Centreville Wildcats was a wild 5th inning in which the Chargers' lineup batted around, scoring 3 runs. Final score was 4-1.
The game was a gritty effort by the Chargers, who were out-hit by the Wildcats 10 to 5, and were struck out 10 times by Wildcat ace Ryan Ashooh. But the Chargers blasted a home run in both the 4th inning (Matt DeWitt) and the 5th (Wes Kerbuski) and took advantage of two Wildcat fielding errors to score 2 more.
Though the Wildcats got runners into scoring position in every inning but the 3rd, that was the only inning in which they were able to get a runner across the plate, a solo home run by senior Connor Bach. Starting pitcher Dan Lawler (4 IP, 3K, 1 BB, 6 hits, 1 ER) and Bill Boyle (3 IP, 5K, 0 BB, 4 hits, 0 ER) were able to shut down the Wildcats when it counted.
Contributing to Charger offense were Matt DeWitt (HR, BB, RBI), Wes Kerbuski (HR, RBI), Jaime Danehower (1B, 1B, BB), Adam Fridy (BB, BB), Sam Zimmerman (1B), Brian Morrow (BB), and Ben Langford (sac fly RBI).
The Chargers play Westfield at home on Friday at 6:30 PM.
