STONE BRIDGE HIGH: 10
In a game in which the lead changed 4 times, the Chargers lost to the Stone Bridge Bulldogs Wednesday night, 10-7. Though the Chargers led 6-3 after 5 innings, in the last two innings the Bulldogs hammered the Charger bullpen for 7 hits and 7 runs.
The Chargers got on the board in the 1st inning after leadoff hitter Connor Major walked, Brian Morrow singled, Matt DeWitt walked, and Ben Langford singled to right field, scoring Major. In the 4th inning Ben Langford singled, Sam Zimmerman doubled, and Wes Kerbuski tripled to deep right center field, scoring both Langford and Zimmerman. A single by Jaime Danehower scored Kerbuski. In the 5th inning leadoff hitter Matt DeWitt hit a low line drive back to the pitcher, which hit his foot and dribbled into right field. Adam Fridy then hit a weak grounder to 1st, but a fielding error allowed both DeWitt and Fridy to reach base safely. Ben Langford's subsequent double to right center allowed both to score. The Chargers' final run occurred in the 7th inning when Collin Ryan hit a 2-out single, a passed ball advanced him to 2nd, and a single by Wes Kerbuski allowed him to score.
Charger defensive highlights included two double plays, 4-6-3 in the 1st inning, and 6-4-3 in the 4th, and a shoestring catch by left fielder Collin Ryan in the 7th.
Charger offense was led by Ben Langford (double, 2 singles, 3 RBI) and Wes Kerbuski (triple, single, 3 RBI). Also contributing were Sam Zimmerman (double, walk), Jaime Danehower (single, walk, RBI), Matt DeWitt (single, walk), Brian Morrow (single, sac bunt), Collin Ryan (single, sac bunt), and Connor Major (walk).
