Except for the last inning, the Varsity Chantilly Chargers stayed even with the Woodson Cavaliers Saturday night, at 2 runs apiece. But the Cavaliers exploded in the bottom of the 6th with 3 hits and 4 runs. Final score was 6-2.

The Chargers' defensive highlight was getting out of a bases-loaded, 1-out jam in the 3rd inning. A fly ball to shallow right
field landed at the feet of sophomore Kevin Johnston, who, because the runners held, was able to throw out the runner at
home. The next batter flew out to 2nd to end the inning.

The Chargers got their first run in the 3rd inning on a single by Kevin Johnston, a reach-on-error by Jaime Danehower, a fielder's choice by Ben Langford, and a Cavalier throwing error. In the 5th inning lead-off batter Connor Major was hit by a pitch, he advanced to 2nd on a sac bunt by Kevin Johnston, and he finally scored after two passed balls.

Charger hitting was led by Matt DeWitt (1B, 1B, BB). Also contributing were Brian Morrow (2B, BB), Ben Langford (1B, BB), Kevin Johnston (1B, sac bunt), and Wes Kerbuski (1B).

CJ Irwin (3-2/3 IP, 3K, 4 BB, 4 hits, 2 ER) was the starting pitcher. Caleb Reinhardt (2 IP, 2K, 2 BB, 3 hits, 4 ER) took the loss. Will Bashaw (1/3 IP, 5 pitches) closed out the game.
