The Varsity Chantilly Chargers won their season opener Wednesday night against the Yorktown Patriots at Barcroft Field in Arlington. The game remained scoreless until the 6th inning. Then a single by Jaime Danehower and a stolen base set up an RBI single by Sam Zimmerman. Yorktown quickly responded in the bottom of the inning on a double steal with runners on 1st and 3rd, which tied the score. In the top of the 7th a runner interference call resulted in a double play which stopped a Charger rally. In the bottom of that inning the Patriots threatened to score with 2 men on and one out. But a bunt which hit the batter and a strikeout ended the inning. In the 8th inning a leadoff single by Connor Major started a half hour rally. When the dust cleared the Chargers had banged out 4 hits, scoring 5 runs. Final score was 6-1.

Contributing to the Chargers' offense were: Matt Dewitt (2B, 1B, 1B, RBI), Sam Zimmerman (1B, 1B, 2 RBI), Adam Fridy (2B, BB), Connor Major (1B, 1B), Jaime Danehower (1B, SB, RBI, sac bunt), Ben Langford (1B, RBI), Brian Morrow (sac fly RBI), Wes Kerbuski (sac bunt).

Starting pitcher Bill Boyle, who went 5 innings, gave up one hit, and 2 walks, but allowed no runs. He struck out 5. Dan Lawler pitched 1-1/3 innings, gave up 2 hits, 2 walks, and 1 earned run. He struck out 2. Matt Dewitt pitched the last 1-2/3 for the win, allowing 1 walk and striking out 2.

The Chargers return to action on Friday at 6:00 when they take on the Eagles of Edison.
