Baseball Beats Oakton on Senior Day

On Senior Night, which really took place early Saturday afternoon, the Varsity
Chantilly Chargers defeated the Oakton Cougars 10-7. Charger offense scattered 12 hits. John Colella pitched 6 innings for the win.

Chantilly scored first in the 2nd inning when Nick Kralles singled, and then John Colella smashed a double to the warning track in center field. Roger Strittmatter scored Colella on a single, and Strittmatter himself scored on a walk, a single by Tim Bollinger, and a passed ball. In the 3rd inning leadoff hitter Brian King was hit by a pitch, advanced to 2nd on a single by Kevin McGrath, and scored on a Matt Dewitt double down the left field line. The Cougars responded in the 4th with 3 runs of their own on a double, two infield errors, and a bases-loaded walk. In the bottom half of the the frame Danny Bates slammed a line drive to deep center. It hit the top of the fence and bounced, back into the field, for a triple. One run scored. In the 5th inning Chantilly scored 5 runs on 4 hits, 3 walks, and a sac fly. The Cougars added a run in the 6th on 2 hits. In the 7th inning Oakton's first 3 batters reached base on a fielding error, a single, and a double. Two scored. Two ground outs and an RBI single later, the tying run was on deck. A grounder to short ended the game.

Third baseman Nick Kralles led Chantilly's defense, with no errors on 5 chances.

Leading  Chantilly's offense were Roger Strittmatter (3 singles, 2 RBI's), Tim
Bollinger (single, double 2 RBI's), and Danny Bates (triple, 2 RBI's) Also
contributing were  Nick Kralles (2 singles, walk), Matt Dewitt (double, RBI),
John Colella (double, walk, RBI), Kevin McGrath (2 singles), Joe Danehower (2 walks, sac bunt), and Brian King (walk).

In 6 innings John Colella allowed 4 hits, 5 walks, and 1 earned run. He struck
out 5. Bill Boyle, pitching in relief, allowed 3 hits and 1 earned run.

Chantilly plays Westfield away Monday night at 6:30 PM.
