The Varsity Chantilly Chargers defeated the Oakton Cougars Monday night, 11-9. In a game that lasted 2-3/4 hours, the Chargers and the Cougars together banged out 29 hits. Starting pitcher John Colella went 5-1/3 innings for the win. Nick Kralles pitched a strong 1-2/3 innings in relief.

The Chargers scored first in the top of the 1st inning. After Danny Bates and Brian King got on base, Nick Kralles launched the first pitch that he saw over the fence in right center field. The Cougars responded in the bottom of the inning with 2 runs of their own on 2 hits, an error, and a ground ball. In the top of the 2nd inning Danny Bates scored 2 when he slammed a double which rolled to the foul pole in right field. The Cougars responded again in their half of the frame, adding another run on 2 hits. In the top of the 4th inning, with 2 outs, Chantilly had 4 consecutive hits, scoring 3. In the 6th Chantilly scored 3 more on 2 hits, 2 walks, a sac fly, and 2 passed balls. The Cougars fought back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring 3 on 2 hits, a walk, 2 hit batters, and a fielding error. Going into the last inning Oakton was down by only 2 runs. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, the Cougars had the go-ahead run on deck. Closing pitcher Nick Kralles got the last Oakton batter to fly out to shallow left field, ending the game.
