On a special night for the Herndon Hornets where the school announced that they were naming the baseball field after 19 year Head Coach Al McCullock, the Chargers downed the Hornets 6-1. The bats came alive Wednesday night, as the varsity Chantilly Chargers scattered 9 hits. Starting pitcher John Colella went 6 innings for the win. Bill Boyle pitched the last inning in relief. The Hornets got on the scoreboard first in the second inning, on a walk, an error on a pickoff attempt, and a single. But the Chargers quickly responded in the next inning with an RBI single by Danny Bates. In the 4th inning Joe Danehower smacked a bases-loaded single to right field, producing 2 runs. A bases-loaded walk by Timmy Bollinger in the 5th added 1 more. Danny Bates led off the 6th inning by launching an 0-1 pitch over the left field fence. Later in the same inning Brian King scored on a balk after advancing to 3rd on a walk, a stolen base, and a hit by Kevin McGrath.
